As some of you know, I’m a member of my local knitting guild: Sheeper than Therapy, here in Fresno, Ca. I joined last February after finding out that such a thing existed and have had a really great time getting to know the members there, and being in absolute AWE of the things they make that they bring to show off. The meetings are once a month and often feature a speaker or someone to teach us a new technique, which is always interesting. For the December meeting we had a gift exchange (the classic white-elephant style where the gifts could be stolen by others) as well as a potluck full of delicious food that we ate together while hanging out and knitting. The gift I brought was a handmade yarn bowl that my dad made from clay, along with a skein of yarn from Gritty Knits. The recipient of the gift was thrilled and will cherish the bowl. It’s always nice to see a gift go to someone who will not only use it, but who understands what it’s like to create something.
So, now to the part where I am searching for a knitting pattern, lol. At the guild meeting I was lucky enough to have received the most stunning yarn, and I have been thinking about what to make with it ever since. The yarn I got is two skeins of sport weight Spincycle Dyed in the Wool, paired with a skein of sport weight hand dyed yarn in Lavender Fields by Bella Yarn. I posted a photo, but would like to say that it doesn’t do the yarn justice, lol. It’s absolutely stunning. I love the way the lavender yarn works as a background for the Spincycle and think I want to use that combo in the pattern I choose, and maybe add a main color that will compliment those two. I initially was thinking navy, but I also think a turquoise would look lovely, or even a golden orange to really make the blues stand out.
I’ve put together a small Ravelry bundle of patterns I’ve come across that would work, and I would love opinions on any of it. I am open to color suggestions, pattern suggestions, and thoughts about any of the ones I’ve already tagged in the linked bundle. I’m open to cardigans as long as the pattern calls for steeking instead of working the piece flat.
Leave me any comments you want to about the future project please! Also, when you leave a comment on the site I have it set to require my approval, however, it’s only required for you first comment on the site, any future comments won’t need moderation. I am looking forward to hearing suggestions!
A cowl would be lovely!
Oh, you are so right! I’ve never made a cowl (or worn one), so they aren’t ever at the forefront of my brain. I’ll have to dive into some searches later today!
