The other day I had an idea for a beanie pattern that I wanted to try and make. The inspiration was “rain on a window” that popped into my head after a day of unusual weather for my part of California – a thunderstorm and deluge in August! So, the colors and pattern are reminiscent of that, and I have tentatively named it the Petrichor Beanie, after the smell of rain on the pavement.

I’m working on writing up the pattern now, as well as writing it up for a one-color version. I’ll be opening up a test call as soon as that is finished, hopefully this weekend. I’ll send the test call out via my email newsletter and also put up a link to the test form in my insta stories, so look out for it there. I want to also grade it for various sizes from child to adult.
The pattern uses chunky weight yarn (Gritty Knits Chonk) and is knitted from the brim to the top, and the sample shown above uses stranded colorwork, with a knit and purl texture. It took me a day to make, although that was while inventing the pattern, so it’s a pretty quick knit. I’ll have more info about yardage and gauge later this week as I get my notes sorted out while typing the pattern up. I’m really excited about this one!
